Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 officially announced with voice calling capabilities-full review.
Samsung has added yet another tablet to its Galaxy Tab portfolio. Just like its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab 2, the device comes in two variants – Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + 3G. The 3G variant of the tablet boasts of voice calling capabilities as well. The Galaxy Tab 3 is light weighing a mere 306grams and is lighter than its predecessor the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 that weighed 345 grams.
The Galaxy Tab 3 has a 7-inch WSVGA (1024 x 600 pixel resolution, 169 PPI) TFT LCD display. It runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor along with 1GB ofRAM. The rear of the devicehas a 3MP camera (same asthe Tab 2) and the front has a 1.3MP camera for video calling. The device has two built-in storage options, 8 and 16GB expandable up to 64GB via a microSD card slot. A 4000mAh battery powers the device.
It supports a large array ofvideo formats including MPEG4, H.264, H.263 and WMV along with audio formats including MP3, OGG, AC3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, WAV and FLAC.
The Android OS is skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. Apart from the Play store, Samsung gives users access to Samsung Apps, Samsung Hub (including Music Hub, Game Hub, VideoHub and Learning Hub) and more. It also comes preloaded with Samsung ChatON mobile communication service.
With Samsung recently launching the Galaxy S4 with the Exynos 5 Octa SoC,and the Note II running on the quad-core processor, itis a little disappointing to see the Tab 3 working on adual-core processor. Another downside to the specifications of the Tab 3 is that the 7-inch display has a 1024x600 resolution (same as its predecessor, in a day and age where other 7-inch tablets show off a 1280x800 resolution.
Looking at the specificationsof the Tab 3, the device may be priced around the Rs. 15,000 price point. For the same price tag, you cantake a look at the Asus FonePad, Zync Quad 8, Google Nexus 7, Samsung’svery own Tab 2 and many more.
There is no information on the price of the Tab 3, though Samsung has announced it will start rolling out the Wi-Fi version globally in May and the W-Fi+3G version in June.
